In order to compete for the market against Microsofts new operating system (OS), Windows 7, Google has recently announced an comprehensive overview of its new operating system, Chrome. The understanding is that the purpose of the Chrome OS is to provide a quick, simple, safe platform that is geared towards Internet use, with a large volume of cloud computing support.
Vice president of the Chrome department Sundar Pichai said that Chrome encompasses speed, simplicity, and safety. In addition, use can begin directly after turning the unit on, like a television. He believes that Google will be able to provide users with a better computer system. Google will be releasing the beta version of Chrome OS immediately, while the official version will be released in January next year.
Chrome will first be installed on netbooks, which are low-priced with low specifications yet are currently leading market trends. Google hopes to launch this prior to the holiday shopping season next year. The first group of computer companies which may be supporting the Chrome OS include ACER, ASUS, Hewlett-Packard, and Lenovo. If Chrome gains market acceptance, it may have the potential to change the long-time consumer habit of using Microsoft Windows systems.
