人會長大,即使外表不變,但內裡也會變得成熟穩重。電單車其實也可以同樣地成長,而作為一個超級品牌也應令旗下的電單車不斷成長,以滿足用家們對表現的更高要求。Ducati在推出了1098後,市場反應熱烈。翌年再推 1098R,可惜R版以賽道為終極目標,用家們有點遙不可及。2009年,Ducati為滿足大家,推出升級版的1198及1198S,令超級跑車系列變得更成熟穩重。
2009年的1198顧名思義就是將排氣量提升到1198cc,就是要代替上一代的1098。全車重量只有171kg的1198,搭載的 Testastretta Evoluzione引擎能在9,750rpm時發放出170hp德製馬力,在8,000rpm時能發出13.41kg-m扭力,是一台非常可靠且同級最強的引擎。這台引擎為達到更高容積,採用了跟廠方戰車相同的106 x 67.9mm缸徑與衝程。為使引擎的閥門更有效率,閥門的直徑加大了4%,吸氣閥推至43.5mm,而排氣閥則加大至35.5mm。另一方面,橢圓電噴咀亦增大了13.3%,直徑增大至63.9mm。容積大了,但廠方沒有停下減磅的工程,1198用上全新技術製成的曲軸箱,足足省下了3kg。車架沿用了Ducati的綑桿式車架,以34mm鋼管製作,而鋼管的厚度只有1.5mm,於是構成了輕巧與剛性並重的車架。1198是以用家的角度出發,所以1198依舊保留雙座鞍的設計。1198配上了43mm Showa全調校式倒立前叉,套筒表層用上氮化鈦處理,令阻力更低。而1198S配上的則是Ohlins倒立前叉,不論普通版及S版都用上Brembo單體式放射卡鉗,延續了超跑的風格。尾懸掛方面,1198及1198S都用上單邊搖臂,避震則設有座高調校,而且是獨立於彈簧預載的。1198配上10柱式灰色輪圈,而S版配上的則是仿GP的7柱式鋁合金鍛造輪圈。原廠安裝了Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SC輪胎,即是基本上已可以直接落場使用。
儀錶的款式與1098相同,兩者亦是於左掣盒上控制顯示資料。在1198S身上,騎士更可以找到Ducati Traction Control (DTC)系統,這是廠方自家推出的循跡控制系統,與Ducati Corse於賽道上使用的軟件相同。DTC能夠感應前後輪的轉速,經電腦計算後,若尾輪出現打滑,電腦會利用燃油噴注控制引擎輸出,從而使尾輪恢復抓著力。這套系統能讓騎士增加乘騎的安全,亦有助彎心加油出彎的表現。DTC共有8級模式選擇,每組都設定了容許尾輪空轉的程度。8級提供最安全的設定,騎士基本上不會感受到任何打滑的情況;1級則為最高級別,容許富有經驗的騎士作出最大程度的控制,例如做出power slide之類的動作。除了DTC之外,DDA也是1198S必然的配備,騎士可以用來記下行車資料用作分析。當track day的一節跑練完結後,就可以下載4Mb的資料到電腦中分析比對。還有一點非常重要的,就是DDA軟件也對應了Windows Vista。除了兩項電子設備外,1198S的重量進一步下調至169kg。前後用上Ohlins避震外還加添了Ohlins釘把,使操控的表現更出色。至於減磅方面,用上鍛造輪圈有助減低慣性及上躍重量。其他部位則配上碳纖維沙板,使車身更跑格亦更輕巧。
