家將團
一.據《安平縣雜記／風俗現況》記載：六月，白龍庵送船，每年由五瘟王爺擇日開堂，為萬民進香，三天後，王船出海（紙製王船），先一日，殺生、收殺五毒諸血於木桶內，名曰「千斤擔」，當擇一好氣運之人擔出城外，與王船同時燒化，民人贈送品物米包，名曰「添載」，是日出海，鑼鼓喧天，甚熱鬧，一年一次，取其逐疫之義也。出巡台灣府各境時，以武營官兵一人穿戴朝服，騎馬稱中軍府（畢中軍），為出巡五靈公執開導先鋒，各境設香案迎接，是故有迎老爺之稱。每年六月循例出巡配合參加遶境各廟宇陣頭，熱鬧市況喧騰一時，然大正4年（1915）受西來庵事件影響，迎白龍庵，遂被日人禁止。
有關家將團的起源，文獻並無明顯記載，民間的口碑則莫衷一是，比較普遍合理的說法，則是仿照昔時縣署中的巡捕體系而設置。據（安平縣雜記/警察事務條）清季縣署的巡捕組織：「縣衙門：縣令一，刑名幕友各一、門政司事一、堂事司事一、直堂司事一、招房司事一、刑房供承一、皂役六、皂總一、快役六、快總一、總簽首八、簽首二百、地保八、總理三十八、鄉長三十八、民壯四十、禁卒八，總簽及各簽率帶巡夜，城內外約有四百餘人。」
縣令為一縣之長（如今日的市長），為通緝要犯、審理的主持人。刑名幕友就像今日的幕僚官員（如書記官、法警），門政、堂事、直堂、招房四司事及刑事供承（其職務如檢察官），主拷審罪犯。皂役與快役館分立於縣衙口之左右，就像現今的一般警察和刑事警察，均主抓拿緝捕等事。早期的這些組織和今日的檢警法院審判體系相差不多，所以合理的推斷家將團的組織是脫胎於昔時的地方的巡捕審堂體系。
二、刑罰分類
根據《清朝通典》卷八十 刑一 頒示訂五刑之制，可分為：
１．笞刑：
自一十至五十每十笞為一等，凡五等用小竹板折責，每十笞責四板，旗人犯笞者以鞭代之。 ２．杖刑：
自六十至一百每十杖為一等，凡五等用大竹板折責，折數與笞刑等。 ３．徒刑：
發本省驛遞自一年至三年每半年為一等，凡五等各依年限應役役滿回籍五徒，各予以杖自六十至一百有差到配折責。 ４．流刑：
安置遠方終身不返，分二千里二千五百里三千里為三等，並杖一百到配折責。 ５．死刑：
曰斬曰絞皆有立決監候之別，最重者為凌遲為梟示。
※五刑之外有較流刑加重者曰充軍發邊遠安置
（分五等一曰附近、二曰邊遠、三曰極邊、四曰邊衛、五曰煙瘴）
後人又細分為二類：
（一）輕罪：
手銬（套手）、魚枷（套頭）、藤條（打手）、板批（打屁股）、鐵鍊（套腳）、皮鞋背（打臉）、棍批（重打）、立籠（關）、鍊鎖（鎖）、棕鬚捲、竹掃捲（刑女犯）。
（二）重罪：
虎枷（套頭）、坐籠（關）、拶指（刑手）、挾腳（刑腳）、釘椅、釘床、釘棍、鐵鎚、鑽、斬馬刀、斧頭（重刑）。
家將成員分析
（一）什役：負責肩負刑具之僕隸
，刑具乃刑罰罪犯之各類器具。
（二）小差：為清季縣署中的「禁卒」一職神格化而成，負責傳令一般會有二位：文差、武差。
１．文差面譜：
斯文，持王令，白面鳥嘴 ２．武差面譜：
莊嚴，持團旗，白面鳥嘴 ３．服裝：
黃色虎皮衣
（三）四將
：撐刑二人、捉拿二人合稱四將 １．撐刑
：為清季縣署中皂班館的「皂役」一職神格化而成，
也稱「頭排」，主外勤巡捕。
２．面譜：
柳爺 紅黑陰陽面
甘爺 白面歪斜嘴
手執：板批、羽扇
服裝：黑衣、露肩
３．捉拿：為清季縣署中快班館的「捕快」一職神格化，主擒拿逃犯。
（１）捉神謝必安又稱大爺
面譜：白底鼻側兩端畫黑蝙蝠額上畫一紅戟
手執：魚枷、羽扇
服裝：白衣、露肩、戴高帽
腳步：走白鶴拳
（２）拿神范無救又稱二爺
面譜：黑眼白睛
手執：「善惡分明」方牌
服裝：藍衣、露肩、戴圓帽
腳步：走猴拳
（四）四季審堂：分春、夏、秋、冬四大神，為清季縣署之拷審罪犯之「門政、堂事、直堂、招房」四位司事
神格化。
１．春季神何爺：
為清季縣署「門政」司事之神格化。
面譜：龍面（春季屬木 主青龍）
手執：木桶（花盆）主拷打犯人昏倒時潑水使清醒
服裝：著藍綠衣
２．夏季神張爺：
為清季縣署「堂事」司事之神格化。
面譜：鳥面（夏季屬火 主朱雀）
手執：火盆 主炮烙犯人
服裝：著紅色衣
３．秋季神徐爺：
為清季縣署「直堂」司事之神格化。
面譜：虎面（秋季屬金 主白虎）
手執：金瓜鎚 主敲擊犯人
服裝：著灰白色衣
４．冬季神曹爺：
為清季縣署「招房」司事之神格化。
面譜：龜面（冬季屬水 主玄武）
手執：蟒蛇 主驚嚇惡毒犯人
服裝：著深棕色衣
（五）文武判：
為家將團中地位最高的兩位，均戴文官服飾。
１．文判：為清季縣署之「名幕友」神格化而成，類似今日的書記官。
手執：右手持毛筆，左手持簿冊，主記錄罪犯口供
服裝：著文官服飾
２．武判：為清季縣署之「刑幕友」神格化而成，類似今日的法警長。
手執：右手持羽扇 左手持鞭，主收押罪犯
服裝：著文官服飾
關於家將的面譜，目前最早的依據是以家將館中堂留下來的畫像最為原始，經比對現在的神像之面譜，似乎現今的比較複雜些，可能是後來的畫面師為了增加其莊嚴性，依個人的宗教認識，再加以變化，因襲至今，不同畫面譜的師父也有不同的見地，所以都有大同小異之處，家將團也會因出軍的目的不同，畫不一樣的面譜，所以沒有絕對的答案
